Map

February 1911. Stray Find.
The Tharston Furze Hill pit was one of a number of sites at which W. G. Clarke claimed to have recovered so-called "sub-crag" Palaeolithic implements during the early 20th century. Clarke noted these discoveries in (S1) and (S2).
Information from (S3).
According to (S1) the Tharston finds were recovered from a "stone-bed" thought to be of the same age as a similar deposit encountered at Whitlingham and elsewhere. It is noted that only a small number of finds were recovered from the Tharston pit, these mostly patinated a bluish-grey.

It should be noted that many of the "sub-crag" flints that W. G. Clarke claimed as artefacts were far from convincing and most would now be regarded as dubious artefacts.
