Full Description
1966. West of Stocks Lane.
Found on allotment, west of Stock's Lane:
Prehistoric quartzite macehead with hour-glass perforation. Information from (S1). See sketch on reverse of (S1). This discovery was first reported in (S2). It is probably what would now be described as a pebble mace (assuming it was unmodified apart from the central perforation). Although originally recorded as Neolithic, such objects are generally not seen as closely datable, having been found in both Mesolithic and later prehistoric contexts.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 6 May 2014.
