Summary

During 1841-1842 two pottery urns containing human cremations were found in this approximate area. The antiquity of these urns was not established but they could have been of Bronze Age or Early Saxon date.

Full Description

1841-42. In a field called Snaps End in this (Hassingham) parish in the occupation of Mr Wm. Walters were discovered in digging Gravel in 1841 - 1842 two urns containing Ashes and Bones, the urns were broken, some portion of them are said to be in the Rev. Sidney's (of Acle) possession.

Information from NCM card.

(S2) mentions a William Waters (not Walters); and on the land of J. Green Junior is a field called Snape's End (not Snap's). Presumably this is the one meant.

The grid reference is its approximate location, the boundaries having been removed.
