Excavated 1830 (destroyed) by Mr.Utting, solicitor of Thurton.
Urns, swords and other remains found. According to OS, in this barrow. Now lost.
The old edition 6" OS, and (S1), say a Roman coin hoard was found in 1707 in this barrow, but R.R.Clarke (NCM) said this was not correct. Hoard is NHER 10323.
See (S2), (S3) (Manning says gone by 1854), and (S4).
Possibly remnant placed on brow of hill in ploughed field. Not sufficient to measure dimensions.
Comp. A.J.Lawson (NAU), 16 December 1975.
29 July 1986. NAU air photography.
Very irregular ring ditch on site of this barrow (S5)
Comp. E.Rose, 17 May 1993.
June 2007. Norfolk NMP
A cropmark of a Bronze Age round barrow is visible on aerial photographs (S6). The central grid reference for this cropmark has been amended from TG 3239 0081 to TG 3239 0080. A circular negative cropmark with a diameter of 16m is present relating to a levelled earthwork mound. This cropmark relates to a round barrow of Bronze Age date. It forms part of a barrow cemetery (NHER 49491) located on White Heath. The irregular ring ditch cropmark previously recorded here (See above (S5)) appears to relate to a natural feature rather than the round barrow.
J. Albone (NMP), 7 June 2007
