Summary

A medieval human skeleton was found in 1950 during the construction of a new public lavoratory. A fragment of 11th or 12th century pottery was found with the skeleton, but further work on the site did not reveal any more finds.

1950. South side Church Plain. In making public lavatory by Barclays Bank.
1 skeleton with head to east cut through.
Rim fragment of 11th to 12th century pottery also found.
Sherd seen by R.R. Clarke (NCM).

Late 1970s to 1980s. Remainder of Church Plain, now car park, rebuilt and upgraded.
Watched by P. Williams (NAU) who noted no finds or features at all.
Surface rubble rested directly on natural.
E. Rose (NAU) 24 September 1985.
