Full Description
6 December 1931. Stray Find.
Found by [1]:
1 Palaeolithic "flint implement". Found just south of Gorleston Golf Links Village, at 5' 3" [1.5m] from land surface in gravel cliff. The exposed section comprised 2' 6" [76cm] of loam over 5' [1.5m] of flint, gravel and sand containing a 6" [15cm] layer of greenish clay (44-50" [111-127cm] from top of cliff).
Information from (S1). Also noted in (S2) and possibly (S3).
A watercolour drawing of this object (S4) shows it to be a partly-cortical flake rather than a bifacial implement. Although there is some chipping shown around the edges of the flake it is unclear whether this represents retouch or accidental damage.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 7 April 2014.
14 January 1932. Stray Find.
Found by [2], near top of cliff at same site:
1 Palaeolithic "flint implement".
Information from (S1). Also noted in (S2) and possibly (S3).
A watercolour drawing of this object (S5) shows it to be a flake with ?ochreous staining. Although there is some chipping shown around the edges of the flake it is unclear whether this represents retouch or accidental damage.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 7 April 2014.
