Full Description
Around 1839.
'In a field on the opposite side of the stream (to NHER 10765) and nearly an equal distance from it and now in the occupation of Mr. Poppy was a Barrow which Mr. Poppy carried away about four years since in the removal of which was found an Urn containing Bones and Ashes.'
G. Johnson's additions to (S1), no illustration.
Transcribed by R. R. Clarke (NCM).
Clarke suggested a site on TM 28 NW at 200 868, but this is in Pulham Market (St Mary Magdalen) not St Mary the Virgin and does not fit the other details (see NHER 10765).
Examination of (S2) located site NHER 10765 - across river equidistant on south as stated is a field called Stone Hill
Close, occupied by Mr. Poppy, at grid reference above. Narrow field on its southeast side is called Molehill Meadow - less probable site.
E. Rose (NAU), 11 October 1982.
