Full Description
Buildings demolished in 1973.
In the medieval period this site was crossed by Cook's walk. Carved limestone fragments in Decorated style were found in demolished walls and given to King's Lynn Museum. A number of old documents rescued from the buildings after others had been destroyed were given to the Norfolk Record Office.
S. Dunmore (NAU), April 1974.
1973. Building survey prior to demolition.
No. 66 was a two-storey brick building with a pantiled roof. It has stone plinths which may date from an earlier building but the structure recorded here was 17th century. No. 67 was a two-storey timber-framed structure which apparently also dated from the 17th century. The front (east) part of No. 66 was rebuilt in the middle of the 18th century and No. 67 was refaced and the eastern part rebuilt in brick in the early 19th century. The façade of No. 66 was of 1840 with a reset block dated 1660, and the inscription 'Norfolk House'. 18th century panelling and plaster work inside, and 19th century alterations. The relationship between the two buildings was not clear at the time of survey but a passageway between the two led to a yard at the rear.
See (S1) for further information, detailed description and floor plans.
E. Rose (NAU), amended by A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 13 March 2019.
