Full Description
Moat (Martins Farm).
E. Rose (NAU)
Moat described as partly filled in on west and reduced on the east.
See (S1).
M. D. Leah (NAU), 20 December 1990.
February 2001.
(S2) shows the moat as a perculiar polygonal shape, like half an hourglass.
The northern section of the west arm is now an amorphous reedy pool; there is no trace of the north arm, a deep but narrow ditch occupying the presumed line.
Th main portions of the moat to the south, under separate ownership, were not seen.
The farmhouse is externally of late 19th century brick, but an offcentre stack may suggest an older core.
To the north is a late example of a timber framed barn, probably 18th century.
See (S3).
E. Rose (NLA), 20 February 2001.
