Summary

A linear cropmark can be seen on an Ordnance Survey aerial photograph of this area taken in 1973. The date, form, and significance of this cropmark remains uncertain. It's possible that it is the remains of a former field boundary or drainage ditch. It does not appear as a feature on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map but is visible as a cropmark on RAF aerial images taken in 1946.

February 2020. Air Photo Interpretation.
The site was originally recorded simply as an "undated cropmark" with no further details.
Reanalysis of the 1973 image (S1) has identified what appears to be a linear parch mark, continuing the east-west field boundary to west of the mapped area beforeturning northwards at a right angle to meet a pond. The width of the parchmark is varied throughout its length. There are no features mapped in this area on the First Edition Ordnance Survey map (S3) and earlier maps such as the tithe and enclosure were not available for consultation. However, a cropmark is visible on the 1946 air photos (S4) taken by the RAF. The southern edge of the feature is quite indefinite in the 1946 image and it is uncertain if it is of archaeological origin. It's possible that it represents a former field boundary or drainage ditch.
