Full Description
A moat is marked on the OS map (S1).
1984. Site Visit.
This is northeast of the site of Starston Place, a Georgian manor now demolished. A manorial site according to District Council. (S1) wrote 'The old seat of the Cottons stands northeast of the church and higher than it'. Present remains consist of linear east to west pond as shown on (S1), around 5m wide, set in deep depression. Ruined farm buildings surround west end; east end shows no sign of any continuation. Did pond to north beyond site of ice-house once form part of east side? It also has no trace of any continuations being wedge shaped and surrounded by trees.
E. Rose (NAU), 5 July 1984.
April 2000. Site Visit.
Linear pond 10 to 12m wide remains. Whole area of ruined and other farm buildings undergoing renovation into dwellings. Area immediately around pond still scrub and tree covered with logging and building rubble to north.
H. Paterson (NAU), 11 April 2000.
