Pre 1956. Stray Find.
A collection of prehistoric worked flints found in Castle Acre was shown to the Cambridge University Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology (CUMAA) in 1956. These had apparently been collected in the vicinity of Lodge Farm (TF 825 171). According to (S1) the collection included "Mesolithic axes, Neolithic circular scrapers, blades". The only record held by the HES is a photograph of eight object that was taken by the CUMAA (S2). This appears to show:
1 Mesolithic tranchet axehead.
1 Neolithic narrow-butted flint axehead.
3 ?Neolithic flakes (possibly retouched flake tools).
1 ?Neolithic small ?axehead.
1 Neolithic/Bronze Age discoidal scraper.
1 ?axehead roughout.
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 4 December 2013.
