Summary

Late Saxon and medieval pottery fragments were found during works in 1947. Observations during further works in 1970 noted cess pits containing Late Saxon to post medieval pottery fragments and a possibly 19th century well containing many large oyster shells.

Full Description

1947 to 1948.
In preparing site for extension to Norfolk News Company printing works.
Disturbed area with refuse pits down to 6m (20 feet) below modern surface.
Pot sherds (including Thetford Ware) at 3m (10 feet) from modern surface also medieval sherds up to 15th century. Animal bones discarded.

1970.
Material from several holes. Mainly cess pits. Also one well.
Thetford Ware to post medieval. Lots of large oyster shells mainly from well fill and late date, possibly 19th century.
One almost complete bowl-like pot Late Saxon. Animal bones, two sherds Andenne Ware.
Surrey Ware and Grimston face jug fragments.
Andenne sherds were one rouletted and one rim sherd.
