Summary

A good example of early Victorian Tudor revival style building, this former school was built in 1821 and converted to a house in 1870.

To west of church but same side of road. Built in 1830 and converted to a house by the rector in about 1870 (information from owner).
In imitation 17th century style with 'shaped' gables, octagonal chimneys, porch with 'Tudor' arch, and finials. In excellent condition, this is a valuable example of the early Victorian Tudor revival.

Listing Description:
The Old School House. G.V. II Former school house, now private dwelling. Early C19. Colourwashed brick with slate roof. One storey. Facade symmetrical with two 5-light casement windows with ovolo mullions. Pediments over window openings. Central projecting porch with segmental headed door in square opening with spandrels. Moulded and plastered door surround with key and impost blocks. Pediment over door opening with recessed stone panel above. One light side windows to porch with drip moulds and chamfered reveals. Parapeted and coped shaped gables with octagonal finials. Internal gable chimney stacks with octagonal brick shafts (2 on north side, 1 on south). Dogtooth brick eaves. Lean-to extensions to east; some C20 casements. Included for group value with the church of St. John the Baptist.

The date of construction of the school is unclear as there is a date stone claiming it to have been built in 1821, however records claim it was built in 1844. The school was closed in the 1870's and is now a private house.
