Summary

In 1976 a post medieval well at this location was cleaned out. Post medieval artefacts were recovered, including part of well head winch, pieces of wooden buckets, pottery, lead window came and painted window glass.

1976. Stray Find.
Well (marked Ordnance Survey map) cleared out by member of the public [1] and water board. Fill began at depth of about 55ft [16.5m], with about 5ft [1.5m] of fill removed.
Finds include wooden objects, including part of well head winch, wooden bucket staves with iron handle and bands, also iron rod and shackle - connected? Green glazed sherds (but apparently post medieval) and lead window bar fragments. Painted window glass also found.
All finds recovered have been deposited with the Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1998.336), apart from the painted window glass, which was retained by the finder.
