Full Description
June 1971. Casual Find.
Casual discovery by reliable workman at 14 King Street.
Raeren (Fig. 128, No. 373) and Cologne stoneware found with late Grimston wares (Fig. 104, Nos. 1, 5) and a red ware cooking pot (Fig. 107, No. 56) in a pit.

A. Carter (KLAS).
This is the site of the Plough Inn and not TF 6165 2004 as formerly thought (previously recorded under NHER 13888).
It was built as the house of the collector of customs in 1715 and became an inn in 1739, so is presumably different from a Plough Inn mentioned in this ward in 1697.
In 1830 it became the King William IV.
A witch bottle (bellarmine of Holmes type IX) containing a cloth heart pierced with pins was found under the threshold when demolished in about 1905 and is now in NCM. Photograph (S2) in file. Illustrates late use of witch bottles.
Information from KLM.
E. Rose (NAU).
This site previously also included information relating to the Listed Building immediately to the south and referred to as both No. 12 and No. 14 King Street. This confusion appears to have arisen as a result of changes to property numbering on this street.
See NHER 12090 for details of this building.
E. Rose (NLA), 11 March 1999. Amended A. Cattermole (King's Lynn UAD), 10 July 2019.
