Summary

Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1976 and 1988 recovered a significant number of Roman pottery sherds, suggesting this may be the site of a Roman-period settlement. This is supported by cropmark evidence, with various linear features potentially associated with a Roman-period farmstead or villa having been identified at this location (NHER 50602). The other finds recovered at this site included Mesolithic, Neolithic and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Roman, medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval token; a post-medieval jetton and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a medieval spur, purse bar and knife-handle terminal.

September 2007. Norfolk NMP.
The Roman farmstead or villa cropmarks previously recorded under this number are now grouped under NHER 50602. The ring ditches previously identified on the aerial photographs listed were not mapped as part of the NMP assessment, as they were of a dubious archaeological nature and appeared to be of potential geological origin. However a possible ring ditch or circular structure was tentatively identified within this vicinity, see NHER 50603.
S. Massey (NMP), 12 September 2007.
