Summary

The cropmarks of a trackway are visible on aerial photographs running along the parish boundary of Upton with Fishley and Acle. The trackway would appear to be at least post medieval in date, possibly medieval. Although its relationship with a series of cropmark field boundaries in this area (NHER 18128) could imply a much earlier origin for the trackway.

The cropmarks of a trackway are visible on aerial photographs running along the parish boundary of Upton with Fishley and Acle (S2-S3). The trackway would appear to be at least post medieval in date, possibly medieval. Although its relationship with a series of cropmark field boundaries in this area (NHER 18128) could imply a much earlier origin for the trackway. The fields have tentatively been interpreted as being Roman in date. The fact that the parish boundary and this trackway follow the general alignment of the site could indicate that the Roman landscape has had a lasting effect on the medieval and post medieval road and field layout.
The trackways runs from TG 3959 1154 to TG 3976 1127 and is centred on TG 3970 1140. The line of the trackway is made up of a series of hollows, ditches and parched linear features, possibly former banks or compacted surfaces.
