Full Description
November 1976. Casual Find.
Hole dug by Eastern Electricity 0.9m (3ft) by 1.5m (5ft), 9m south of Townhouse Road.
Human skull found about 35cm deep, removed by workman.
No other bones were seen, but a possible feature was identified. The feature was filled with dirty brown sand and was cut into natural sandy clay over chalky boulder clay.
The skull was examined by palaeopathologist Calvin Wells who identified it as probably female, aged 35 to 45, with high orbits typical of Saxons.
A. Rogerson (NAU).
