Before June 1971. Casual discovery.
Two separate groups were handed in:
(a) medieval, probably from river bed; sherds of Grimston Thetford-type bowl and storage jar, Software (see (S1) type of Fig. 80 No. 10), Stamford ware, Yorkshire and Grimston jug (Fig. 87, No. 5), SW French jug (Fig. 102, No. 1), and a Bawsey tile (Fig. 142, No. 44).
(b) 17th century probably a pit group; red wares (Figs. 108, 112-113, Nos. 68, 70, 133, 134, 145, Fig. 119, No. 229), NS ware (Figs. 106-7, 112, 115, Nos. 52, 137, 195), Weser slipware (Fig. 123 No.296), tin-glazed earthenware (Fig. 124 Nos. 304, 306), and Langerwehe (Fig. 128 No. 370) and Raeren stonewares, including one blue-glazed sherd. The probable date range is 1620-1680.
