Summary

An early 19th-century brick house bearing the date 1827. A metal plaque above the arched carriage entrance bears the name 'Aickman's Foundery 1827' and the arch leads through to the foundry yard.

Listing Description excerpt:
"House. Dated 1827. Brown brick with slate roof. Two storeys in four bays. Segmental-arched carriage entrance to left leads into Aickman's Yard which formerly contained John Aickman's Foundry. Over archway a cast-iron plaque reads: 'John Aickman's Foundry, MDCCCXXVII'...Plain parapet hides roof. Gable-end stacks. House is entered through a panelled door in the north side of the passageway: round-arched doorcase and decorative fanlight...

Brick house with arch, over it a cast-iron plaque 'JOHN AICKMAN'S FOUNDERY, MDCCCXXVII'.

(S2) shows the demolition of the preceding building on the site, known as Linnock Yard and owned by Aickman, a timber framed jettied house. He states that a 'bracket' was removed to Castle Rising church.

It is likely that Aikman was already running a foundry on this site before the rebuilding in 1827. (S3) reproduced in (S5) shows a sign on the timber-framed building which says 'Aickman's Brass/Iron Foundry'.
