Map

1963-1970 (at some time). Systematic observation and recovery during excavation of service trenches.
An east-west wall 0.4m (1 ft 3 in) thick, identical to those recorded at NHER 1212 to the east, abutted a north-south wall 0.35m (1 ft 2 in) thick, identical to that recorded at NHER 1214 to the west, of red brick, clunch and carstone. North of the east-west wall the top of medieval floor levels were exposed, and south of it was a patchy cobbled surface. An east-west trench 1.2m (4 ft) deep and between 6m and 7.5m back from the street frontage revealed no evidence for north-south walls. This suggests a row of 4.9m-deep (16 ft) buildings along the frontage similar to a row of 15th to 16th century cottages on St James' Street.
Finds from this site included Grimston cooking pots and jugs, Yorkshire jugs and a little post-medieval red ware.
