Map

Rear of 119 High Street. Systematic observation and recovery.
A brick cess-pit broken into during sewering works contained two distinct fills, the nature of which suggested re-use after only partial cleaning out of the earlier deposit.
The lower fill, in addition to three pipe bowls of 1620-50 and two of 1660-80, some Raeren stoneware and plain tin-glazed earthenware, included: Late Grimston (Fig. 104 No. 6) Red ware (Figs. 106-10 Nos. 44, 82, 87, 94, 100, 122, 128, 129, 131, 141, 160). NS ware (Figs. 107, 121, Nos. 50, 275). Black-glaze (Fig. 119 No. 231). Frechen stoneware (Fig. 128 Nos. 378, 383). The upper fill, in addition to four pipe bowls of 1680-1720, and red wares similar to those in the lower fill, included:
Staffordshire brown glaze (Fig. 119 Nos. 218, 223, 224). Staffordshire slipware (Fig. 120 Nos. 247, 249, 250, 252, 258, 261).
