Map

Before June 1971. Systematic observation and recovery during pile drilling, 13 Nelson Street.
Most material recovered from three drilled pile holes in centre of site. The upper 6m to 9m (20 to 30 feet) of fill from these produced largely 13th/14th century material, sherds of Yorkshire and Grimston jugs (including (S1) Fig. 89, No. 7) and cooking pots ((S1) Fig. 81, Nos. 17, 28, 30; Fig. 82, No. 21; Fig. 83, Nos. 1, 11), with only occasional sherds of 16th to 18th century stoneware and red ware.
Below 9m (30 feet) the fill contained only Grimston Thetford-type ware ((S1) Fig. 76, Nos.3, 9, 11-13), Stamford ware, shelly ware ((S1) Fig. 93, No. 4) and Software.
