Full Description
Confused in many accounts with Hapton House (NHER 18477).
Some accounts say this is an Elizabethan timber frame with a Jacobean facade.
(S1) wrote 'Hapton Hall was built to be a jointure house for W. Knievels widow of Ashwellthorpe perpetually'.
(S2) follows this, spelling the name Knevet, and says it was a manor house.
If (S1) was right this would put the date as late 15th/early 16th century. Not yet visited.
E. Rose (NAU) 1 November 1982.
However, Listed Building description says this is an early 19th century brick house with Doric porch, and details submitted with planning application 1998 (in file) seem to support this. Possibly therefore the above details may indeed refer to Hapton House.
E. Rose (NLA) 21 July 1998.
