Summary

The cropmark of a ring ditch or Bronze Age barrow is visible on oblique aerial photographs from 1980, 1988 and 1990. The barrow was excavated in 1968, and objects recovered include a Bronze Age urn, an incense cup, a scraper, a naturally holed flint and a bronze awl. A second urn was found inverted over the cremation.

Full Description

1954.
Round barrow eastnortheast of Heacham water tower recognised.
Ring of chalk 18.3m (60 feet) in diameter, mound still visible under plough.

1968. Excavated.
See detailed report (S1) in file.
Bronze Age urn, incense cup, scraper, natural holed flint and bronze awl (S2) found. Second urn inverted over cremation. Scrapers on surface.
Pottery vessels, flint and perforated flint donated to King's Lynn Museum (KILLM : 1969.25.1-5).

Cropmark of ring ditch visible on NLA oblique aerial photographs from 1980 (S3), 1988 (S4) and 1990 (S5). The ditch is up to 2.5m wide and 35m in diameter. There appears to be a slight causeway on the eastern quadrant at TF 6808 4014, although this may be due to disturbance of the ditch during excavation.
