Full Description
In the days of Sir Henry Spelman a church bell was found 'at a very low tide off Hunstanton' (i.e. Old Hunstanton detached). Said to be evidence of Reformation trading in church goods.
Information from (S1).
However it should be noted that there is in the centre of the Wash, but much further south, a sand bank called Old Bell Middle. Is this the correct find spot? Or is it a coincidence named from a bell-buoy? Or is the story apocryphal, inspired by the name of the bank? The reference to Spelman makes this less likely.
E. Rose (NLA), 8 December 1999.
