Summary

Fragments of medieval and post medieval pottery were found in the roots of a fallen tree before 1977. The sherds were seen for identification in 1985, but they may have become confused with finds from the adjacent field, NHER 16744, by this time.

Before 1977. Casual Find.
Sherds of unglazed medieval and post medieval pottery were found in the roots of a fallen tree in the meadow. Landowner has found sherds here before.

February 1985. Finds Identification.
The sherds noted above were seen by A. Rogerson (NAU).
The assemblage includes a large quantity of medieval unglazed ware, 13th-14th century, including two simple rims of early medieval form and one unglazed jug handle. Only four sherds of glazed Grimston were identified.
The post medieval sherds consist of one large stoneware base and one very late glazed red earthenware sherd.
One medieval brick fragment, one lava quern fragment were also recovered.
