Full Description
1976.
Cropmark of rectangular enclosure.
April 2022. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
The cropmarks of a possible medieval to post medieval rectilinear enclosure can be seen on aerial photographs (S1-S2). The features consist of a rectilinear enclosure with a possible entrance on the features western side defined by two parallel ditches. It is possible that the feature may have related to a medieval to post medieval stock enclosure. It is also possible that the enclosure may be part of a wider medieval to post medieval field system recorded in close proximity. Although the feature may be medieval to post medieval in date, it is also possible that the feature may be earlier (possibly Iron Age to Roman) in date. The feature has been mapped from a very oblique aerial photographs with limited control points for rectification. This may have a slight effect on the locational accuracy of the mapping.
