Summary

In 1959 preparation of this site for new offices for the Norwich Union Insurance Society exposed a number of possible medieval rubbish pits. Finds recovered during the redevelopment of the site included a complete 13th-century Grimston Ware jug.

1959. Field Observation.
All Saints Green. In preparing site for new offices for Norwich Union Insurance Society.
Medieval pottery including complete 13th century Grimston Ware jug.
Pottery held by Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 1959.100 : A).
Information from (S1). These discoveries were noted in (S2) and the discovery of the jug was reported in the local press (S3). The Grimston Ware jug is also described and figured in (S4).

It is recorded that the top of the exposed sections were disturbed by the foundations for earlier buildings and a number of possible rubbish pits. One of the pits near All Saints Green was "...7' 6" across and about 12' deep..." and produced medieval pottery of 12th- to 13th-century date.

Another almost complete 13th-14th century pot.
