Map

17th century, 6 bays, 2 storeys and dormers.
Shaped gables.
Wooden cross windows.
Visited E. Rose (NAU) 22 March 1978.

(S1) notes that an alehouse was recorded on this site in 1616 but the present building is of about 1700.
E. Rose (NAU) 1 September 1993.

(S2) notes that the building is L shaped with a platband. The dentilled cornice chages to moulded brick over the three right hand bays. The south east return has segmental arches over the ground floor openings.

11 November 1999. Revisited by E. Rose (NLA)
The rear wall of both wings is of chequered brickwork in English bond with diagonal skintlings.
A catslide of later date covers the gable of the lesser wing.
Rear wall of main block largely blank but has a wooden cross ground floor window with what looks like a blocked slit next to it, and a blocked door.
In the angle of the two wings is a two storey brick porch of uncertain date.
The interior is mostly concealed but the first floor rooms have ceiling beams with tongue stops.
Plans in file.
E. Rose (NLA) 17 November 1999.

November 2002.
Evaluatory stripping of position of proposed door from central first floor room, the 'Hobart Room', into the porch tower revealed unbroken brickwork of about 1700. The porch does now appear to have horizontal skintlings and is probably 19th century. Stripping of the partition between the central and right hand rooms at first floor of main block, Hobart and Boleyn rooms, beside stack showed that this partition is batten and lath of quite late date, probably a 19th century alteration.
E. Rose (NLA), 18 November 2002.

October 2011. Planning Application.
Remove Outbuildings/Sheds & Kitchen Extension, Erect Single Storey Rear Extension, Fenced Storage Area.
See (S3).
Z. Dack (HES), 23 November 2011.
