Map

Not Sam's, as on Ordnance Survey. Designed by Vermuyden in 1630s. Said to be named after a Dr Sams. Runs from 7900 9075 to 5968 9815 (nowadays ending in the Cut-Off Channel). The main section of this drain, running parallel with Poppylot or Powplot Road built in 1880, has now been emptied and filled in.
E. Rose (NAU), 4 October 1978.

The section for quarter of a mile or so southeast of Modney Bridge (grid square TL 6196) is still very deep and wide with high banks along each side; note the slight kink here. However at the bridge it has been reduced to a trickle presumably when the road was remade in the 1980s.
E. Rose (NLA), 3 December 2000.

The northwest section was abandoned in 1928 after construction of Sandway Drain; shrinkage of peat had made it unusable.
