Summary

This line was opened by the East Anglian Railway Company on 1 February 1848. It began near Watlington at a junction with the Lynn and Ely Line (NHER 13594), and had stations at Magdalen Road, Middle Drove, Smeeth Road and Emneth and Wisbech, before crossing the county boundary. There was also a siding at Wiggenhall. In 1964 it closed to freight, and on 9 September 1968 it closed completely.

Later the East Anglian Railway (later Great Eastern). East-west line 1848, closed 1964 (goods) 1968 (passengers). Magdalen Road-Wiggenhall Siding-Middle Drove-Smeeth Road (siding)-Emneth-county boundary.

(S1) (railways added around 1860) marks a Walsoken station at what was later Meadow Lane Crossing.

Line at Marshland St James used as farm track, in parts ploughed out; some crossing houses remain; also iron girder bridge across Middle Level Main Drain, now used as road and path.

A signal box remains at the site of Smeeth Road station which is to be converted to an office retaining the original form.
However this was never done and the box is proposed for removal.

The bridge across the flood relief channel was still extant in 2008 and could date from the 1950s.
