Full Description
Castle here perhaps built in third year of Edward I by William Belet. Site unknown.
See (S1).
Tithe and estate maps in NRO give no clues.
E. Rose (NAU), 17 September 1979.
Possible site is NHER 11462.
[2] notes - licence to crenellate 1271, not 1274, as above. Held to be an injurious fortification 1277; as Beletes in Marham alienated to Marham Nunnery 1385 to 1389.
E. Rose (NAU), 17 February 1989.
Schedule for site NHER 11462 now firmly equates the castle site with that site.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 February 1995.
