Summary

A Second World War Type 22 pillbox survives as an extant structure. It has been visited on the ground, is depicted on modern Ordnance Survey maps, and is visible on aerial photographs. It was positioned overlooking the railway station. It was restored in 2003 when the original internal folding shelves below the gun loops were found still in place, and a number of artefacts were recovered.

When the pillbox was restored, the original internal folding shelves below the gun loops were found still in place, and a number of artefacts inside. It is proposed to open it for public inspection.

The Second World War Type 22 pillbox described above is visible as an extant structure on aerial photographs, including S2. Rather than mapping it from an aerial source, its outline has been traced from the modern Ordnance Survey Mastermap mapping (S3) on which it is depicted.
