Summary

A pit of unknown date was observed during the construction of a pipeline in 1978. Prehistoric pot boilers were recovered from the pit.

November 1978. Oil pipe line watched by A. Rogerson (NAU)
Large pit in east edge cut through natural yellow sand with fine gravel, measuring at least 2.5m north to south and about 1.25m deep.
Primary filling of almost black sand with charcoal, ash, and burnt flint/pot boilers, below main fill of slightly discoloured yellow sand in gravel. Upper filling indistinguishable from natural sand, sealed by layer of yellow brown sand with chalk flecks which itself lay beneath ploughsoil.
