Summary

During the late 1960s and 1970s a number of Neolithic and Iron Age pottery sherds were recovered in this area, as well as a possible pierced bone or ivory pendant, a Mesolithic flaked flint axehead, a Neolithic axehead, and a jet or lignite bead. Pottery sherds from the Roman, Middle Saxon and medieval periods were also recovered in small amounts. Records from the Bolingbroke Collection also suggest that human remains may have been recovered from this area in the 19th century.

The diagnostic Neolithic flints included 1 core, 9 flakes, 2 blades, 1 transverse petit tranchet derivative arrowhead (S9) and 1 retouched flake.
