Summary

This eccentric eight-sided black and white building stands on a calm stretch of riverbank on the Broads, complete with outhouses, mooring dyke and frontage. However, this peaceful location hides an unlikely past. The building is in fact the the middle segment of a helter-skelter that stood on Britannia Pier in Great Yarmouth. Following the fire in 1914 it was rescued, though the ship it was transported on was unable to pass under Potter Heigham bridge, and the building was settled on the banks of the river. The current 'bowler-hat' style roof is a later attachment, though the original top section still survives as an outbuilding and is situated slightly behind the main building.

The 'bowler hat' is a later addition; the original top section now stands at the rear used as a shed. The structure is said to have been moved here from the Britannia Pier Great Yarmouth in 1914 after Suffragettes set fire to it.
