Full Description
1973. Excavation for Norwich Survey in advance of proposed redevelopment revealed an incomplete section of the south bailey ditch of Norwich Castle, which cut through a number of Late Saxon pits.
15th-17th century makeup and 17th century housing and yard surfaces. These latter were demolished in 1860.
Gravel quarry dating: very little pottery. Thetford, St Neots.
Ditch fill dating: Late Saxon - early medieval with silty build up through 13th century 14th-16th and deliberate 17th century infilling of remnant of ditch.
Residual Ipswich Ware.
