Summary

Excavation of a gas main trench in 1979 recovered an amorphous mass of undated hard wood charcoal, and the possible outline of a ditch.

15 October 1979. In side of gas main trench.
Amorphous mass of hardwood charcoal, a few centimetres across.
28cm deep after topsoil removed in clayey subsoil.
Indications of a grey ditch-like profile, but this only appeared in east side trench (200mm wide).
