Summary

Soilmark sections of bank, which may relate to a post medieval field boundary or a possible road of an unknown date, are visible on aerial photographs. The features likely relate to sections of a post medieval or possibly medieval field boundary. However, the possibility that the feature may relate to a section of road of an unknown, but possibly Roman date, cannot be ruled out.

Map

1970. Aerial photographs.
Soilmark, white linear, possibly continued by dark mark at west end. Apparently a road.
This is in line with the kink in the modern road at Point Farm supposedly on course of east to west Roman road, and also with the Launditch crossing.
Is it the correct course of the Roman road? (though this would cause difficulties further west) or a diverging road?

Soilmark sections of bank, which may relate to a post medieval field boundary or a possible section of road, of an unknown date, are visible on aerial photographs (S1-S2). Although the date of the features is unknown, it is probable that the sections of bank relate to a post medieval or possibly medieval field boundary. However, as previously suggested (see above), the possibility that the feature may relate to a section of an undated, or possibly Roman Road (which is recorded more broadly as NHER 2796) cannot be ruled out. The bank features are not recorded on the readily accessible historic maps such as S3.
