Summary

Fragments of medieval and post medieval pottery including crucibles were found in builder's trenches on the new estate on the site of the hall. A burnt feature uncovered may have been a medieval hearth.

From builder's trenches for new estate on site of Hall.
Large rim sherd of Grimston Thetford pitcher, wavy line impressed decoration on neck and unusual impressed decoration on handle.
Three body sherds (two join) of grey medieval cooking pot.
One glazed Grimston bodysherd.
One probable basal sherd, Grimston, internal thick glaze, external thin glaze.
One large bodysherd glazed Grimston?
One medieval bowl rim, off white with abundant pinkish coarse sand inclusions, very odd fabric.
One bodysherd, light grey, cracked. Probably a burnt version of last.
Also a large rimsherd of bowl, very hard, reddish, with thick internal black glazed 18th to 19th century.
At 6650 2479 a burnt feature was revealed, with one sherd of base of grey medieval cooking pot.

In retrospect some of these may be crucibles. Compare NHER 23718.

Further information (see file) indicates this material was found at site of road after hardcore laid; burnt feature was in a cable trench 90cm deep. The 18th to 19th century rim sherd was not found with the others, but came from that area.
