December 2023. Wendling Beck and Fransham Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Sections of bank (see above), possibly of medieval date, are visible as earthworks on recent (2017) visualised lidar data and as soilmarks on aerial photographs (S2-S8). The sections of bank most likely formed a long boundary bank associated with land division. The feature is most likely medieval in date, although, a later post medieval date cannot be ruled out. The eastern sections of bank corresponds with post medieval boundaries mapped on the Tithe (S9), Ordnance Survey 1st edition 6" map (S10) and the Ordnance Survey 2nd edition 25" map (S11). It is possible that the bank is an earlier medieval feature which may have been solidified into later post medieval field boundaries. The sections of bank can be seen as a soilmarks on aerial photographs (S1-S7) and low spread earthworks on the recent (2017) visualised lidar data (S8). As the lidar survey was flown in 2017, it is likely that the features still survive as very low earthworks.
