Summary

Reports suggest that this is the site of a watermill and/or a windmill and an undated wreck although it is unclear if this old ford site is the right spot as no watermill or windmill is marked on early Ordnance Survey maps.

Map

Site of watermill?; wreck found. (S1) refers to framework of sunken vessel at Pyes Mill, Loddon. Reply (S2) in file, suggested it was Roman. However many 19th century accounts of rotting hulls of wherries in river at Loddon. (S3) does not mark a mill here but calls this ford Pye's Watering. The road approaching on the south is still (1980) called Pye's Mill Road, so presumably this was the site of the watermill mentioned and not site NHER 10537.
E. Rose (NAU), 11 July 1980.

Ford now destroyed by sewage works.
E. Rose (NLA), 20 April 2001.
