Summary

Fieldwalking after the removal of the topsoil in preparation for the construction of the bypass recovered a number of finds. These include a prehistoric struck flake and core, a Roman coin, a complete undated copper alloy cow bell, thimbles, a lead weight, buckles and pieces of medieval and post medieval pot.

Struck flake and battered core.

Addenda.
Also strap hand sherd, late medieval/post medieval, hard oxydised micaceous, patch of thin greenish brown glaze.
May 1980, not reported until January 1981.

Area extended to cover further finds by informant after removal of topsoil.
Roman As, 1st to 2nd century.
Complete copper alloy cow bell and fragment of another.
Five thimbles.
Spherical lead weight.
Miscellaneous buttons (all post medieval).
Decorated post medieval shoe buckle.
Six other buckles.
Pear-shaped thick curved copper alloy sheet with square hole.
Lead tube fragment and lead lump.
Eight post medieval sherds including one basalt ware.
Two roof tile fragments, not recent.
Five clay pipe stems.
Two fragments chalky clay burnt hard red.
