Summary

This is the course of the old road which followed the parish boundary between Witton and Bacton then cuts across a field to join the present road. The building of Witton Park necessitated the movement of the road. It is visible as a cropmark on a number of aerial photographs.

Course of Old Road before building of Witton Park.
Follows parish boundary between Witton and Bacton (formerly Edingthorpe) then at south end cuts across field in straight line to Road Plantation where joins present road.
Informant says the north end is visible as a cropmark.

No, in fact it is a diverging hollow way.

Cropmarks probably relating to this road are visible on aerial photographs. These have been recorded as NHER 39028 at TG 3218 3153 and NHER 39038 at TG 3241 3225. This road appears to be the one which had a section excavated across it at TG 322 317 in 1972 (NHER 6964 cxt.11) although there seems to be some confusion over the exact location of the section. However it does not seem to be connected with the excavation at TG 3258 3195 (NHER 6926 cxt.5) which appears to refer to a different branch of road leading off to the east (S2)
