Summary

The site of two lime kilns, marked on a map of 1836. They stopped working in 1958, but their brick and flint remains can still be seen today.

Still remaining, brick and flint, crudely built but in good condition, in base of pit.

In fact two kilns here, threatened by rubbish dumping and flooding in 1990/1. Information from [1].

Mentioned in (S2) which states ceased working in 1958.

As of 1992 the threat by dumping of builders rubble appears to have stopped.

Site first marked on Tithe map 1839 (S4). Works are also noted in Kelly's Directory from 1892 to 1925 (S5)
Kiln was operated by local farmer until around 1958 when it was shut down by the local council because the farmer was taking chalk from their part of the property.
