Summary

In 1948 some Roman metal working debris and a number of samian and other pottery sherds were recovered from this area. An Iron Age La Tene brooch was also recovered.

1948. Stray Find.
Near Red Barn. Ploughed up.
Iron slag and Roman pottery, comprising part of Castor Ware hunt cup (late 2nd cent.); three mortaria including two stamped by Matugenus (probably of Montans 55-80) -other illegible.
(This later corrected by R. R. Clarke (NCM) to 'Three mortaria frags including two stamped by Matuganus of Brockley Hill, white ware, white slip, third stamp illegible')
Samian F18/31 stamped SA...OF (?Sabrinus - late 1st - or Sacro - early 2nd).
La Tene III Derivative bronze brooch (photo); iron slag.
T. Gregory (NAU), notes in 1980 the brooch is in fact not derivative, but an Iron Age La Tene III brooch with skeuomorphic collar.

On NCM (S3) map R. R. Clarke marks two sites, NHER 1673 and NHER 24071, with no reference of what material came from each, except reference to striated jar from NHER 24071. Did any other material come from this site?
