Map

November 1980. Find.
This cottage is said to have been constructed in the 1550s, see informant [1].
During restoration in November 1980, two leg bones of a cow (not horse as originally stated) were found under the hearth. These would have been placed there as charm. A lock of human hair and two nails were also found in the upstairs 18th century fireplace that covered a fireplace of 1630. These items were also likely placed there as a charm.
Information from [2] and (S1).
E. Rose (NAU) 15 December 1980.

A sooted base sherd of a 16th century green glazed earthenware vessel was also found.
Identified by W. F. Milligan (NCM)
E. B. Green (NCM), November 1983.

The 'human hair' has now been identified as hemp. Information from [2].
It is now in Rural Life Museum.
