Summary

In 1981 a Roman copper alloy sestertius of the emperor Philip I was recovered, along with a large amount of wood, from material dredged from a freshwater mussel bed.

February 1981. Dredged up from Breast Sand near the Fresh Water Trial Beds in a sample of mussels.
Bronze sestertius of Philip I, inscription reads IMP M IVL PHILIPPVS AVG.
Together with a large amount of wood.
